Harvesting for hash rosin happens fast. We chop down the plants and give the buds a quick trim before freezing them solid with dry ice. Freezing them quickly preserves as much of the terpenes as possible, and is critical to make sure the exact profile of the plant as it hits peak ripeness is transferred to the final product—the rosin
Frozen buds are loaded into an enormous washing machine that is filled with water chilled to 1-2 degrees above freezing. The impeller that causes the water to rotate and wash is located on the bottom and doesn’t touch the floating buds. No paddle and no ice means nothing bumps into the plant material that could potentially rupture trichomes. The water is passed through screens to collect the trichome heads that are then freeze dried.
The most important part, the press. The pristine trichome heads are carefully packed into 25 micron bags and placed in between sheets of parchment paper. Once all the bags are prepped, they are placed into the press at low temperature and low pressure. One steady press done by hand produces a massive glob of rosin from each bag, which is all collected.
Cold Curing the rosin turns it from a very clear and hard, almost shatter-like, consistency into a soft, smooth, and fragrant concentrate.
It takes a few weeks, but once it’s ready it’s sent for testing. Our first batch of Ego Checker rosin has come in at 83% THC and features a very rare terpene called Nerolidol at 1.6%! This terpene is not present in the dried and cured flower, which means the only way to experience Ego Checker at its prime is our live hash rosin.
